Wall Plates
Solo Exhibition at Sala de Espera, Tijuana, MX
March - May 2024
One day in my studio, I held up a toggle light switch cover and looked through it. Within the cutouts, segments of sky, roof, and trees were visible. Suddenly, a new type of landscape emerged: mostly blocked out with smooth plastic was a peep hole that showed snippets of a vague place. Two more holes for screws exposed other vantage points.
For my exhibition at Sala de Espera, I presented eleven mid-sized paintings using the form of light switch covers as a formal jumping off point. This compositional constraint allowed for a layered, bifurcated landscape that is both concealed and revealed.
